Coney Island

On Labor Day, I went to Coney Island with three friends. Two of us had never been before, and the other two had each been once. It ended up being a great group to go with, as all of us were in agreement that the Ferris wheel - or carousel, should there be one - was about as daring as we were willing to be, ride-wise.

In case you can't tell from the eighteen different signs, this is the ORIGINAL Nathan's.

The first thing we did was walk out onto the pier. The water looked like this.

Not what I was expecting. Most of what I heard about Coney Island was that it was crowded and dirty, but I guess they cleaned it up. (Also, the movie Requiem for a Dream was set there. All sunshine and bunnies, that one.) Actually, there were guards (?) standing at the start of the pier to make sure we didn't have any glass bottles. And the pier was very clean indeed, though there was a lot of broken glass on the beach. Maybe they figured that was a losing battle? Anyway, the water was pretty; two of us went swimming.

We ended up not going on any rides at all. But we did eat a healthy lunch. (Waffle fries and soft ice cream are a healthy lunch, right?)
