Last night I saw The Get Up Kids on their 10th anniversary tour for their album Something to Write Home About.
Kevin Devine opened. He's local (from Brooklyn), and he was pretty good.
I must say, the Gramercy has a good system. The first opening band, The Life And Times (from Kansas City, Missouri), went on precisely at 8:00 and finished at exactly 8:30. Kevin went on at 8:45 on the dot.
And then...
They opened with "Holiday," the first track on Something to Write Home About.
If you look in the background between the bassist and the lead guitarist, you can see a couple of kids. They're with the band.
I had predicted that they would play "Valentine" (from Something) and not "Mass Pike," but they surprised me and did the opposite. (They played "Mass Pike" in New York! Hell yeah.)
The encore, finishing with "Ten Minutes." You can see the little girl again in the background, with a tambourine. There was a little boy back with the drummer - he had maracas. It was pretty adorable.
